Plainspoken

About the firm · sample

A small firm that writes like people talk.

Founded in 2009 to do one thing differently: explain the law in words clients actually use. Replace this story, the people and the details with your own.

§ 1

Our story

Since 2009 · sample

One office, one promise.

Plainspoken began as a two-lawyer practice above a bakery. The founders had watched too many clients sign documents they didn’t understand. So they set one rule: if a client can’t explain their own agreement back to us, we haven’t finished explaining it.

Today the team is a little bigger, but the rule is the same. Every client gets a one-page summary in plain English, a written fee before work starts and a straight answer about the odds. Sample story: write your own.

§ 2

How we work

Four principles

What you can hold us to.

No. 1

Plain English first

Every document comes with a short summary in everyday words.

No. 2

Fees in writing

You see the fee model and an estimate before any work starts.

No. 3

One lawyer, start to finish

The attorney you meet is the one who handles your matter.

No. 4

Honest about the odds

We tell you the weak points of a case as clearly as the strong ones.

§ 3

How fees work

Fees explained

Three ways lawyers charge, in plain English.

No packages or tiers: legal work isn’t sold that way. Instead, here is how each fee model works. Your written fee quote says which one applies.

Flat fee

One agreed price for a defined piece of work. You know the total before we start.

Usually used for

Wills and trusts · contract reviews · company formation

Hourly

You pay for time spent, billed monthly with a line for every task. We give you an estimate first.

Usually used for

Family law · probate · disputes

Contingency

We are paid a share of what you recover. If you recover nothing, you owe no fee. Costs are explained up front.

Usually used for

Personal injury · some employment claims

Sample explanations. Fee rules vary by state; check yours before publishing.
